Inducer Motor Kit Cancels: IIK 398A-40-25 IIK 398A-40-38 8-15-92 Installation Instructions Part No. 309868-753 NOTE: Read the entire instruction manual before starting the installation. INTRODUCTION This instruction covers the installation of inducer motor kit Part No. 309868-753 on model 398A, 399A, 58DX, 58DXA, 58DXC, 58SX, 58SXA, and 58SXC Gas-Fired Condensing Furnaces. Only trained personnel should install or service heating equipment. Untrained personnel can perform basic maintenance functions such as cleaning coils, or cleaning and replacing filters. All other operations should be performed by trained service personnel. When working on heating equipment, observe precautions in the literature, and on tags and labels attached to the unit. Follow all safety codes. Wear safety glasses and work gloves. Have a fire extinguisher available. 3. Disconnect motor leads from inducer control box. 4. Remove screw securing motor ground wire and inducer control box ground wire (when used). The ground screw may be located either on blower shelf, or on top mounting bracket of inducer assembly. 5. Remove screws securing left mounting bracket to collector box and plastic inducer housing. 6. Remove screw securing top mounting bracket to coupling box. 7. Remove screws securing plastic cover plate to inducer housing. Save top mounting bracket. 8. Carefully remove motor assembly from inducer housing. 9. Remove and discard old cover plate gasket located in groove on inducer housing. Step 2–Installation of New Motor Assembly 1. Install new cover plate gasket in groove on inducer housing. 2. Position new motor assembly on inducer housing. Ensure gasket is properly seated. 3. Using wide-pitch threaded screws (for plastic) supplied with kit, secure cover plate to housing. Leave top hole vacant. 4. Install left mounting bracket on inducer housing with 2 wide-pitch threaded screws. 5. Install top mounting bracket (wide end against cover plate) on top of inducer housing with one wide-pitch threaded screw. Secure ground wire(s) with this screw if previous motor was grounded in this manner. Otherwise, ground motor to blower shelf. 6. Using stainless steel screw (provided in kit), secure top mounting bracket to coupling box. 7. Using 2 wide-pitch threaded screws supplied with kit, secure left mounting bracket to collector box. 8. Reconnect motor leads. 9. Reconnect drain tube to collector box. 10. Turn ON electrical supply to unit. 11. Check furnace operation through two complete cycles. 12. Reinstall control access door. Before beginning any installation or modification, be sure the main electrical disconnect switch is in the OFF position. Electrical shock can cause personal injury or death. DESCRIPTION AND USAGE This kit can be utilized to restore units having an inducer motor assembly in need of repair.
