WARNING!
Beforestartingtheenginefullyapplytheparkingbrake,
press the clutch pedal to the floor and place the gear
selectorinNEUTRAL.
Donotattempttopushortowyourvehicletogetit
started.Vehiclesequippedwithanautomatictrans-
axlecannotbestartedthisway.Unburnedfuelcould
enterthecatalyticconverterandoncetheenginehas
started,igniteanddamagetheconverterandvehicle.
Ifthevehiclehasadischargedbattery,boostercables
maybeusedtoobtainastartfromanothervehicle.
Thistypeofstartcanbedangerousifdoneimprop-
erly,sofollowtheprocedurecarefully.Seesection6
ofthismanualforjumpstartinginstructions.
NOTE: Theenginewillnotstartunlesstheclutchpedal
ispressedtothefloor.
NormalStarting
NormalStartingofeitheracoldorawarmenginedoes
notrequirepumpingordepressingtheacceleratorpedal.
Simplyturntheignitionswitchtothe“START’”position
andreleasewhentheenginestarts.Iftheenginehasnot
startedwithin3seconds,slightlydepresstheaccelerator
pedalwhilecontinuingtocrank.Iftheenginefailstostart
within15seconds,turntheignitionswitchtothe“OFF”
position, wait 10 to 15 seconds, then repeat the normal
startingprocedure.

ExtremelyColdWeather(belowϪ20°ForϪ29°C)
Toinsurereliablestartingatthesetemperatures,useofan
externallypoweredelectricengineblockheater(available
fromyourdealer)isrecommended.
