TheSafetyCanopy™ismountedtoroofside-railsheetmetal,behindthe
headliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.TheSafetyCanopy™is
designedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto
furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover
events.
ThefactthattheSafetyCanopy™didnotactivateinacollisiondoesnot
meanthatsomethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,itmeansthe
forceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.TheSafety
Canopy™isdesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpactcollisionsor
rolloverevents,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontalcollisions,
unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationorrollover
likelihood.
SeveralSafetyCanopy™
systemcomponentsgethot
afterinflation.Donottouchthem
afterinflation.
IftheSafetyCanopy™
systemhasdeployed,the
SafetyCanopy™willnot
functionagainunlessreplaced.
TheSafetyCanopy™system
(includingtheA,BandC
pillartrim)mustbeinspected
andservicedbyaauthorized
dealer.IftheSafetyCanopy™is
notreplaced,theunrepairedarea
willincreasetheriskofinjuryina
collision.
Determiningifthesystemisoperational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertotheAirbagreadiness
sectionintheInstrumentClusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe
sideairbagisnotrequired.
