Safety belt maintenance
Inspectthesafetybeltsystemsperiodicallytomakesuretheywork
properlyandarenotdamaged.Inspectthesafetybeltstomakesure
therearenonicks,wearsorcuts,replacingifnecessary.Allsafetybelt
assemblies,includingretractors,buckles,frontseatbeltbuckle
assemblies,bucklesupportassemblies(slidebar-ifequipped),shoulder
beltheightadjusters(ifequipped),childsafetyseattetherbracket
assemblies(ifequipped),andattachinghardware,shouldbeinspected
afteracollision.Fordrecommendsthatallsafetybeltassembliesusedin
vehiclesinvolvedinacollisionbereplaced.However,ifthecollisionwas
minorandaqualifiedtechnicianfindsthatthebeltsdonotshowdamage
andcontinuetooperateproperly,theydonotneedtobereplaced.
Safetybeltassembliesnotinuseduringacollisionshouldalsobe
inspectedandreplacedifeitherdamageorimproperoperationisnoted.
Failuretoinspectandifnecessaryreplacethesafetybelt
assemblyundertheaboveconditionscouldresultinsevere
personalinjuriesintheeventofacollision.
