Vehiclesequippedwithfrontpassengerseatweightsensorsarealsoequippedwithafront
passengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlightisalsoequipped(page2-33).Thesesensors
arelocatedunderbothofthefrontpassengerseatrails.Thesesensorsdeterminethetotal
seatedweightonthefrontpassengerseat.TheSASunitisdesignedtopreventthefront
passengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbeltpretensionersystemfromdeployingifthe
totalseatedweightislessthanapproximately30kg(66lb).
Toreducethechanceofinjuriescausedbydeploymentofthefrontpassengerairbag,the
systemdeactivatesthefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandalsotheseatbelt
pretensionersystemwhen:
Thereisnopassengerinthefrontpassengerseat.(Thefrontpassengerairbag

deactivationindicatorlightdoesnotilluminate.)
Thetotalseatedweightonthefrontpassengerseatislessthanapproximately30kg(66

Thissystemshutsoffthefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbeltpretensioner
system,somakesurethefrontpassengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlightilluminates
accordingtothefollowingtable.
Theairbag/frontseatbeltpretensionersystemwarninglightflashesandthefront
passengerairbagdeactivationindicatorlightilluminatesifthesensorshaveapossible
malfunction.Ifthishappens,thefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbelt
pretensionersystemwillnotdeploy.

Thisindicatorlightilluminatestoremindyouthatthefrontpassengerfrontandsideair
bagsandseatbeltpretensionerwillnotdeployduringacollision.
