In 4WD Low , the au tom atic rid e control system raises the
vehicle ap proxim ately tw o inches above its low est height. Shock
dam pening is locked in firm mod e. The height change improves
bod y clearance. The com bination of firm dam pening and the
height change also provid es maxim um suspension feed back for
improved off-road safety and perform ance.
The vehicle will drop to its low est position when the ignition is
tu rned OFF to provid e ease of entry and exit of the vehicle.
As a safety consid eration, whenever a door is opened , inclu ding
the liftgate and liftgate glass, the system memorizes and
maintains the height at the mom ent the door was opened . The
system will maintain this height until either the doors are all
closed or vehicle speed exceed s 10 mph (16 km / h).
An on-board air com pressor and solenoid s are used to raise and
low er the vehicle. It is norm al to occasionally hear a bu zz or
clicking from the vehicle even when the ignition is tu rned off.
The system stays energized for forty minu tes after ignition is
tu rned off to com pensate for any load changes mad e after the
vehicle is parked .
The au tom atic rid e control system operation can be monitored
throu gh the message center. Refer to Message Center in the
Warning Lights and Gauges chap ter for more details.
Service Switch
The au tom atic rid e control service switch is mounted in the jack
storage area. The switch shou ld be tu rned off to disable the
au tom atic rid e control system during jacking, hoisting, tow ing,
or transp ort of the vehicle to avoid unexp ected vehicle
movem ent.
