Seating and Safety Restraints
NOTE:Ifunsureabouttheproperprocedures,bringyourvehicletoan
authorizedMazdadealershipforinspection.Inspectthesafetybeltsto
makesuretherearenonicks,tearsorcuts,replacingifnecessary.Check
allautomaticlockingretractorsonalloutboardseatingpositionsaswell
astheautomaticlockingmodeforchildsafetyseatsonthepassenger
frontbelt.Allsafetybeltassemblies,includingretractors,buckles,front
seatbeltbuckleassemblies,bucklesupportassemblies(slidebar-if
equipped),shoulderbeltheightadjusters(ifequipped),shoulderbelt
guideonseatback(ifequipped),childsafetyseattetherbracket
assemblies(ifequipped),LATCHchildseattetheranchorsandlower
anchors(ifequipped),andattachinghardware,shouldbeinspectedafter
acollision.Mazdarecommendsthatallsafetybeltassembliesusedin
vehiclesinvolvedinacollisionbereplaced.However,ifthecollisionwas
minorandanauthorizedMazdatechnicianfindsthatthebeltsdonot
showdamageandcontinuetooperateproperly,theydonotneedtobe
replaced.Safetybeltassembliesnotinuseduringacollisionshouldalso
beinspectedandreplacedifeitherdamageorimproperoperationis
noted.
Theenergyabsorbingfunctionsmayhavebeenactivatedinacollisionso
therestraintsshouldbeexamined;ifthefrontairbagshavedeployed,
thepretensionershavealsodeployedandmustbereplaced—regardless
ofwhethertherewasanoccupantinthepassengerseatornot.The
optionalsideairbagsarenotconnectedtothepretensioners.
WARNING: Failuretoinspectandifnecessaryreplacethe
safetybeltassemblyundertheaboveconditionscouldresultin
severepersonalinjuriesintheeventofacollision.
