TheSafetyCanopyismountedtoroofside-railsheetmetal,behindthe
headliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.TheSafetyCanopyis
designedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto
furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover
events.
ThefactthattheSafetyCanopydidnotactivateinacollisiondoesnot
meanthatsomethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,itmeansthe
forceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.TheSafety
Canopyisdesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpactcollisionsor
rolloverevents,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontalcollisions,
unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationorrollover
likelihood.
SeveralSafetyCanopy
systemcomponentsgethot
afterinflation.Donottouchthem
afterinflation.
IftheSafetyCanopysystemhasdeployed,theSafety
Canopywillnotfunctionagainunlessreplaced.The
SafetyCanopysystem(includingtheA,BandCpillartrim)
mustbeinspectedandservicedbyaauthorizeddealer.Ifthe
SafetyCanopyisnotreplaced,theunrepairedareawillincreasethe
riskofinjuryinacollision.
Determiningifthesystemisoperational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertotheAirbagreadiness
sectionintheInstrumentClusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe
sideairbagisnotrequired.
