ERS (or TOW/HAULmode) also enables an additional
underdrive gear which is not normally used during
through-gear accelerations. This additional gear im-
provesvehicleperformanceandcoolingcapabilitywhen
towing a trailer on certain grades. ERS 1,2, and 3 are
underdrivegears;ERS4isdirectdrive.ERS5(Overdrive)
isthesameasthenormal4thgear.WhenintheDRIVE
positionin1stthrough4thgear,thefirsttaptotheleft(-),
willdisplaytheERSdesignationforthecurrentgear(the
transmissionwillnotdownshift).Forexample,ifyouare
inDRIVEandarein3rd(direct)gear,whenyoutapthe
shiftleveronetimetotheleft(-),thedisplaywillshow4
(ERS4isdirectgear).Anothertaptotheleft(-)willshift
the transmission down to ERS 3 (the added underdrive
