Whentowingathighaltitude   on
steepuphillgrades,consider  the
following: Enginecoolantwillboilat
alowertemperature  thanatnormal
altitudes. Iftheengineisturnedoff
immediately aftertowingathigh
altitude onsteepuphillgrades,the
vehiclemayshowsignssimilarto
engineoverheating. Toavoidthis,
lettheenginerunwhileparked,
preferably onlevelground,withthe
automatic transmission inP(Park)
forafewminutesbeforeturningthe
engineoff.Forvehicles  withmanual
transmissions, lettheenginerun
whileparked,preferably  onlevel
ground,withthetransmission  outof
gearandtheparkingbrakeapplied,
forafewminutesbeforeturningthe
engineoff.Iftheoverheatwarning
comeson,seeEngineOverheating
on page 923.

3. Whenthewheelchocksarein
place,releasethebrakepedal
untilthechocksabsorbtheload.
4.
Reapplythebrakepedal.Then
applytheparkingbrakeandshift
intoP(Park)forvehicles   withan
automatic transmission orinto
gearforvehicles  withamanual
transmission.
Parkingthevehicleonahillwith
thetrailer attached canbe
dangerous. Ifsomething goes
wrong,therigcouldstarttomove.
Peoplecanbeinjured,  andboth
thevehicleandthetrailercanbe
damaged. Whenpossible, always
parktherigonaflatsurface.
5. Releasethebrakepedal.
LeavingAfterParkingonaHill
1. Applyandholdthebrakepedal
whileyou:
Ifparkingtherigonahill:
1. Pressthebrakepedal,butdo
notshiftintoP(Park)yetfor
vehicles withanautomatic
transmission, orintogearfor
vehicles withamanual
transmission. Turnthewheels
intothecurbiffacingdownhillor
intotrafficiffacinguphill.

Starttheengine,
Shiftintoagear,and
Releasetheparkingbrake.
2.
Letuponthebrakepedal.
3. Driveslowlyuntilthetraileris
clearofthechocks.

Havesomeoneplacechocks
underthetrailerwheels.
4.
Stopandhavesomeonepickup
andstorethechocks.
