   Using Your  Evinrude E-TEC Outboard
Starting
Engine Stopping
While  seated, grasp  the  starter handle  and    Twist the  throttle  grip  to SHIFT  position  or
pull slowly until the starter engages, then pull
hard. Repeat, if needed, until outboard starts.

Move shift lever to NEUTRAL.
Press  the  STOP  button  until  the  outboard
stops  running.  If  equipped,  close  the  vent
screw on the fuel tank’s filler cap.

NEUTRAL
IMPORTANT: Engine will not start if outboard
is in gear or if lanyard is not in place.
If  your outboard  does not  react normally  to
this starting procedure or if it fails to start,  re-
fer to Troubleshooting on page 60.
After Engine Starts
Check  the  water  pump indicator.  A  steady
stream of  water indicates the  water pump is
working. If a steady stream of  water from the
water pump  indicator is  not visible, stop  the
engine.  Refer  to   Engine  Overheating  on
page 46.
