THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING  YOUR VEHICLE

Lightforsixtoeightsecondsforaself-check
whentheignitionisfirstturnedon.Afterthe
self-check, the Airbag Warning Light will
turnoff.IftheORCdetectsamalfunctioninanypart
of the system, it turns on the Airbag Warning Light
either momentarily or continuously. A single chime
willsoundifthelightcomesonagainafterinitialstart
up.
• locatedThe DriverintheandcenterPassengerofthesteeringAirbag/InflatorwheelandUnitstherightare
sideoftheinstrumentpanel.WhentheORCdetectsa
collision requiring the airbags, it signals the inflator
units.Alargequantityofnontoxicgasisgeneratedto
inflatethefrontairbags.Differentairbaginflationrates
are possible, based on collision severity. The steering
wheelhubtrimcoverandtheupperrightsideofthe
instrumentpanelseparateandfoldoutofthewayas
thebagsinflatetotheirfullsize.Thebagsfullyinflate
inabout50to70milliseconds.Thisisabouthalfofthe
timeittakestoblinkyoureyes.Thebagsthenquickly
deflate while helping to restrain the driver and front
passenger.
WARNING!
Ignoring the Airbag Warning Light in your instru-
mentpanelcouldmeanyouwon’thavetheairbagsto
protectyouinacollision.Ifthelightdoesnotcome
on,staysonafteryoustartthevehicle,orifitcomes
on as you drive, have the airbag system checked
immediately.
Thedriverfrontairbaggasisventedthroughthevent
holes in the sides of the airbag. The passenger front
airbaggasisventedthroughtheventholesinthesides
oftheairbag.Inthisway,theairbagsdonotinterfere
withyourcontrolofthevehicle.
