Parkonafairlysteephill,withthe
vehiclefacingdownhill.  Keeping
yourfootontheregularbrake,set
theparkingbrake.

Whenyouaredoingthis
inspection, thevehiclecould
movesuddenly.Ifthevehicle
moves,youorotherscouldbe
injured.

Tochecktheparkingbrake's
holdingability: Withtheengine
runningandthetransmission  in
N(Neutral), slowlyremovefoot
pressure fromtheregularbrake
pedal.Dothisuntilthevehicleis
heldbytheparkingbrakeonly.
Whenyouaredoingthischeck,
thevehiclecouldbegintomove.
Youorotherscouldbeinjured
andproperty couldbedamaged.
Makesurethereisroominfront
ofthevehicleincaseitbeginsto
roll.Bereadytoapplytheregular
brakeatonceshouldthevehicle
begintomove.

Beforestarting thischeck,be
surethereisenoughroom
aroundthevehicle.

TochecktheP(Park)
mechanism's holdingability:
Withtheenginerunning,  shiftto
P(Park).Thenreleasethe
parkingbrakefollowed  bythe
regularbrake.
2.
Firmlyapplyboththeparking
brakeandtheregularbrake.
SeeParkingBrake  on
page 8‑29.
Donotusetheaccelerator
pedal,andbereadytoturnoff
theengineimmediately  ifit
starts.
Contactyourdealer/retailer  if
serviceisrequired.
3.
Trytostarttheengineineach
gear.Thevehicleshouldstart
onlyinP(Park)orN(Neutral).
Ifthevehiclestartsinanyother
position, contactyourdealer/
retailer forservice.
