Ifyoumustdrivethroughhigh
water,driveslowly.Tractionor
brakecapabilitymaybelimited.
Whendrivingthroughwater,
determinethedepth;avoidwater
higherthanthebottomofthehubs
(ifpossible)andproceedslowly.If
theignitionsystemgetswet,the
vehiclemaystall.
Oncethroughwater,alwaystrythebrakes.Wetbrakesdonotstopthe
vehicleaseffectivelyasdrybrakes.Dryingcanbeimprovedbymoving
yourvehicleslowlywhileapplyinglightpressureonthebrakepedal.
Becautiousofsuddenchangesinvehiclespeedordirectionwhenyou
aredrivinginmud.Even4x4vehiclescanlosetractioninslickmud.As
whenyouaredrivingoversand,applytheacceleratorslowlyandavoid
spinningyourwheels.Ifthevehicledoesslide,steerinthedirectionof
theslideuntilyouregaincontrolofthevehicle.
Ifthetransmission,transfercaseorfrontaxlearesubmergedinwater,
theirfluidsshouldbecheckedandchanged,ifnecessary.
Waterintrusionintothetransmissionmaydamagethe
transmission.
Ifthefrontorrearaxleissubmergedinwater,theaxlelubricantshould
bereplaced.
Afterdrivingthroughmud,cleanoffresiduestucktorotatingdriveshafts
andtires.Excessmudstuckontiresandrotatingdriveshaftscausesan
imbalancethatcoulddamagedrivecomponents.
