Recycled engine coolant
FordMotorCompanyrecommendstheuseofarecycledenginecoolant
producedbyFord-approvedprocessesinvehiclesoriginallyequipped
withMotorcraftPremiumEngineCoolant(green-colored).However,not
allcoolantrecyclingprocessesproducecoolantthatmeetsFord
specificationESE-M97B44–A.Useofsuchcoolantmayharmtheengine
andcoolingsystemcomponents.
FordMotorCompanydoesNOTrecommendtheuseofrecycledengine
coolantinvehiclesoriginallyequippedwithMotorcraftPremiumGold
EngineCoolantsinceaFord-approvedrecyclingprocessisnotyet
available.
Usedenginecoolantshouldbedisposedofinanappropriate
manner.Followyourcommunity’sregulationsandstandardsforrecycling
anddisposingofautomotivefluids.
Coolant refill capacity
Tofindouthowmuchfluidyourvehicle’scoolingsystemcanhold,refer
toRefillcapacitiesinthischapter.
FillyourenginecoolantreservoirasoutlinedinAddingenginecoolant
inthischapter.
Severe climates
Ifyoudriveinextremelycoldclimates(lessthan–36°C[–34°F]):
Itmaybenecessarytoincreasethecoolantconcentration
above50%.
NEVERincreasethecoolantconcentrationabove60%.
Increasedenginecoolantconcentrationsabove60%will
decreasetheoverheatprotectioncharacteristicsoftheengine
coolantandmaycauseenginedamage.
Refertothechartonthecoolantcontainertoensurethe
coolantconcentrationinyourvehiclewillprovideadequate
freezeprotectionatthetemperaturesinwhichyoudriveinthe
wintermonths.
Ifyoudriveinextremelyhotclimates:
Itisstillnecessarytomaintainthecoolantconcentration
above40%.
