The Anti-Lock   Brake System  cond ucts  a low  speed  self-
test  at abou t  12 mph  (20  km/ h).  If for  any  reason  you r
foot  is  on  the  brake  when   the  vehicle  reaches  12  mph
WARN ING!

Pumping   makes  the  stop ping  distan ce lon ger.  Just
press  firm ly  on you r  brak e pedal   when  you  need
to slow  down   or stop .
Anti-Lock   Brak e  System s  (ABS)  cannot    preven t
the  natu  ral  law s  of  physics   from   actin g  on  the
veh icle, nor  can  they  increase   brak ing  or  steerin g
efficien cy  beyon d  that  afford ed  by  the  condition
of  the   veh icle  brak es   and   tires   or  the   traction
afford ed.
The   ABS   cannot    preven t   accid ents,   including
those   resu ltin g  from   excessive    speed   in   turns,
follow ing   anoth er  veh icle  too  closely,   or  hydro-
plan ing.  Only  a safe,  atten tive,  and  skillfu  l driver
can  preven t accid ents.

The  Anti-Lock  Brake  System  pump   motor   runs  during
the  self-test,   and  during    an  ABS stop ,  to  provid e  the
regu lated  hyd rau lic pressu re. The  motor  pump  makes   a
low  hu mming  noise during   operation;   this is  norm al.

During   off-road   use,  loss   of  traction   can  tem porarily
defeat  the  system  and  cause  the warning   light  to illumi-
nate.  Turn the  ignition  to LOCK  and  ON again  to restore
Anti-Lock  Brake  System  function.
