Childrenandboosterseatsvarywidelyinsizeandshape.Choosea
boosterthatkeepsthelapbeltlowandsnugacrossthehips,neverup
acrossthestomach,andletsyouadjusttheshoulderbelttocrossthe
chestandrestsnuglynearthecenteroftheshoulder.Thedrawings
belowcomparetheidealfit(center)toashoulderbeltuncomfortably
closetotheneckandashoulderbeltthatcouldslipofftheshoulder.
Iftheboosterseatslidesonthevehicleseat,placingarubberizedmesh
soldasshelforcarpetlinerundertheboosterseatmayimprovethis
condition.
Theimportanceofshoulderbelts
Usingaboosterwithoutashoulderbeltincreasestheriskofachild’s
headhittingahardsurfaceinacollision.Forthisreason,youshould
neveruseaboosterseatwithalapbeltonly.Itisbesttouseabooster
seatwithlap/shoulderbeltsinthebackseat-thesafestplaceforchildren
toride.
Moveachildtoadifferentseatinglocationiftheshoulderbelt
doesnotstaypositionedontheshoulderduringuse.
Followallinstructionsprovidedbythemanufacturerofthe
boosterseat.
Neverputtheshoulderbeltunderachild’sarmorbehindthe
backbecauseiteliminatestheprotectionfortheupperpartof
thebodyandmayincreasetheriskofinjuryordeathinacollision.
