Tires, Wheels and Loading
ChangingtireswithTPMS
Eachroadtireisequippedwith
atirepressuresensorfastened
totheinsiderimofthewheel.
Thepressuresensoriscovered
bythetireandisnotvisible
unlessthetireisremoved.The
pressuresensorislocated
opposite(180degrees)fromthe
valvestem.Caremustbetaken
whenchangingthetiretoavoid
damagingthesensor.Itis
recommendedthatyoualwayshave
yourtiresservicedbyanauthorized
dealer.
Thetirepressureshouldbechecked
periodically(atleastmonthly)using
anaccuratetiregauge,referto
Inflatingyourtiresinthischapter.
Whenreplacingvalvecaps,usethesamenylonvalvecapsthatcame
withyourvehicle.Donotusechrome-platedvalvecapsbecausethey
maycorrodetothevalvestemsanddamagetheTPMSsensors.

TheTirePressureMonitoringSystemmeasurespressureinyourfour
roadtiresandsendsthetirepressurereadingstoyourvehicleevery
minutewhileyouaredrivingandonceevery6hourswhenyourvehicle
isparked.TheLowTireWarningLampwillturnONifthetirepressure
is25%belowthepressurelistedontheSafetyComplianceCertification
Label(approximately6to9psibelowthemanufacturer’srecommend
tirepressure).Ifthetirepressureincreases2psiabovethe“LightON”
threshold,thentheTPMSlightwillturnOFF.Oncethelightis
illuminated,yourtiresareunderinflatedandneedtobeinflatedtothe
manufacturer’srecommendedtirepressure.EvenifthelightturnsON
andashorttimelaterturnsOFF,yourtirepressurestillneedstobe
checked.
Inshort,oncethelighthasturnedON,atleastonetiremaybe
underinflated.
