Ifthevehicle’spowertrainsystemoritsbatteryhasjustbeenserviced,
theon-boarddiagnosticssystemisresettoa“notreadyforI/Mtest”
condition.Toreadytheon-boarddiagnosticssystemforI/Mtesting,a
minimumof30minutesofcityandhighwaydrivingisnecessaryas
describedbelow:
First,atleast10minutesofdrivingonanexpresswayorhighway.
Next,atleast20minutesdrivinginstop-and-go,city-typetrafficwith
atleastfouridleperiods.
Allowthevehicletositforatleasteighthourswithoutstartingthe
engine.Then,starttheengineandcompletetheabovedrivingcycle.The
enginemustwarmuptoitsnormaloperatingtemperature.Oncestarted,
donotturnofftheengineuntiltheabovedrivingcycleiscomplete.
POWER STEERING FLUID
Checkthepowersteeringfluid.Refertothescheduledmaintenance
guidefortheserviceintervalschedules.Ifaddingfluidisnecessary,use
onlyMERCONATF.

untilitreachesnormaloperating
temperature(theenginecoolant
temperaturegaugeindicatorwillbe
nearthecenterofthenormalarea
