SAFETY SEATS FOR CHILDREN
Child and infant or  child safety seats
Useasafetyseatthatisrecommendedforthesizeandweightofthe
child.Carefullyfollowallofthemanufacturer’sinstructionswiththe
safetyseatyouputinyourvehicle.Ifyoudonotinstallandusethe
safetyseatproperly,thechildmaybeinjuredinasuddenstopor
collision.
Wheninstallingachildsafetyseat:
Reviewandfollowtheinformation
presentedintheairbag
supplementalrestraintsystem
(SRS)sectioninthischapter.
Usethecorrectsafetybeltbuckle
forthatseatingposition(the
buckleclosesttothedirectionthe
tongueiscomingfrom).
Insertthebelttongueintothe
properbuckleuntilyouheara
snapandfeelitlatch.Makesurethetongueissecurelyfastenedinthe
buckle.
Keepthebucklereleasebuttonpointingupandawayfromthesafety
seat,withthetonguebetweenthechildseatandthereleasebutton,
topreventaccidentalunbuckling.
Placeseatbackinuprightposition.
Putthesafetybeltintheautomaticlockingmode.RefertoAutomatic
lockingmode(passengersidefrontandoutboardrearseating
positions)(ifequipped)sectioninthischapter.
LATCHloweranchorsarerecommendedforusebychildrenupto48
lb.(22kg)inachildrestraint.Toptetheranchorscanbeusedfor
childrenupto60pounds(27kg)inachildrestraint,andtoprovide
uppertorsorestraintforchildrenupto80lb.(36kg)usinganupper
torsoharnessandabelt-positioningbooster.
