Malfunct ion Indica tor Light
converter damage. The vehicle shou ld be serviced as
soon as possible if this occurs. (See page 399 for more
inform ation.)
This light is part of an onboard diagnostic system
called OBD that monitors emissions, engine, and
autom atic transm ission control system s. The light
will turn on when the key is in the ON position before
engine start. If the light does not turn on when turning
the key from LOCK or ACC to ON, have the cond ition
checked prom ptly.
CAUTIO N!
Prolon ged drivin g with the MIL on could cause
damage to the engin e control system . It also could
affect fuel econ omy and driveab ility.

Certain cond itions such as a loose or missing gas cap,
poor fuel quality, etc. may turn on the light after engine
start. The vehicle shou ld be serviced if the light stays on
throu gh several of you r typ ical driving cycles. In most
situ ations, the vehicle will drive norm ally and it will not
requ ire tow ing.
If the MIL is flash ing, severe catalytic converter
damage and power loss will soon occur. Immediate
service is req uired .

High Beam Indica tor Light
If the Malfu nction Ind icator Light flashes when the
engine is running, seriou s cond itions may exist that
could lead to immediate loss of power or severe catalytic

beam . Pull the Multi-Function Control Lever on
the left side of the steering column tow ard you to switch
to Low beam . (See page 133 for more inform ation.)
