INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONTROLS
NOTE:    The factory  defau lt  zone is  8. During  program  -
ming,  the  zone  valu e will wrap   arou nd from  zone  15 to
zone  1.

large metallic  objects,  until the  “CAL” ind icator  turns off.
The compass   will now  function   norm ally.
Calibra ting  the  Compa ss (Mid  Line  Clust er Only)
ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER
(EVIC) — IF EQUIPPED
If the  compass  appears   erratic,  inaccu rate,  or  abnorm al,
you  may  wish to  calibrate  it. However,   prior  to calibrat-
ing the compass,   make sure  the prop er Com pass Variance
valu e is selected .
The  Electronic   Vehicle  Inform ation  Center   (EVIC)  fea-
tures   a  driver-interactive     display.  It   is  located   at  the
bottom   of  the  speed ometer   in   the  instru ment   cluster.
Vehicles equ ipped  with  steering  wheel  mounted   buttons
(described   in  this  section)   are  also  equ ipped   with  the
EVIC. The  EVIC consists  of the  follow ing:
NOTE:    The vehicle  speed   must  be  at 0 mph   (0 km/  h)
(manu al  transm ission)  or  the  gear  selector  lever  in  “P”
(Park)  (auto  transm ission)  to enter  the  calibration  mode.
To  calibrate   the  compass,   first,  start  the   engine.  Next,
press  and hold  the  trip odometer   button  until  the current
variance  zone   nu mber displays   (approxim  ately  ten  sec-
ond s). Then,  press   and  hold  the  button   again  until  the
direction  displays   with  the “CAL”  ind icator  on continu  -
ously   (approxim ately   ten   second s).  Finally,  drive   the
System  Statu s
