Be sure  the parking  brake  is firm ly set when  parked  , and
the   gear  selector   lever   is  in   the  “P”   (Park)   position
(autom atic  transm  ission)  or  “R”  (Reverse)   or  1st  gear
(manu al  transm  ission).  When   parking    on  a  hill,   you
shou ld apply   the  parking  brake  before  placing   the  gear
selector  lever  in  “P”  (Park);  otherw ise,  the  load  on  the
transm ission  locking  mechanism  may  make  it difficult  to
move  the  selector  out of  “P” (Park).
