D(Drive): Thisposition isfornormaldriving.   Itprovides
thebestfueleconomy.Ifyouneedmorepowerfor
passing, andyouare:
Thevehiclehasashiftstabilization   featurethat
adjuststhetransmission  shiftingtothecurrentdriving
conditions inordertoreducerapidupshifts   and
downshifts. Thisshiftstabilization featureisdesigned  to
determine, beforemakinganupshift,  iftheenginewill
beabletomaintain  vehiclespeedbyanalyzing  things
suchasvehiclespeed,throttle   position andvehicle
load.Iftheshiftstabilization   featuredetermines thata
currentvehiclespeedcannotbemaintained,   the
transmission doesnotupshiftandinsteadholdsthe
currentgear.Insomecases,thismayappeartobea
delayedshift,howeverthetransmission   isoperating
normally.

accelerator pedalabouthalfwaydown.

Bydoingthis,thevehicleshiftsdowntothenextgear
andhasmorepower.
D(Drive)canbeusedwhentowingatrailer,carryinga
heavyload,drivingonsteephills,orforoff-roaddriving.
Youmaywanttoshiftthetransmission    toalowergear
selection ifthetransmission shiftstoooften.
Thevehicle's transmission usesadaptive shiftcontrols
thatcompares keyshiftparameters  topre-programmed
idealshiftsstoredinthetransmissions   computer.The
transmission constantly makesadjustments toimprove
vehicleperformance according tohowthevehicleis
beingused,suchaswithaheavyloadorwhen
temperature changes.Duringthisadaptive  shiftcontrols
process, shifting mayfeeldifferent asthetransmission
determines thebestsettings.

M(ManualMode):  Thisposition letsdriversselect
therangeofgearsappropriate   forcurrentdriving
conditions. SeeDriverShiftControl(DSC)laterinthis

Whentemperatures areverycold,theHydra-Matic®
6L80automatic transmission's gearshifting maybe
delayedproviding morestableshiftsuntiltheengine
warmsup.Shiftsmaybemorenoticeable    withacold
transmission. Thisdifference inshiftingisnormal.
Notice: Spinning thetiresorholdingthevehiclein
oneplaceonahillusingonlytheaccelerator     pedal
maydamagethetransmission.  Therepairwillnotbe
coveredbythevehiclewarranty.Ifyouarestuck,do
notspinthetires.Whenstopping   onahill,usethe
brakestoholdthevehicleinplace.
