theon-boarddiagnosticssystem.Ifthe       indicatorison,refertothe
descriptionintheWarninglightsandchimessectionofthe
InstrumentClusterchapter.YourvehiclemaynotpasstheI/Mtestwith
the
indicatoron.
Ifthevehicle’spowertrainsystemoritsbatteryhasjustbeenserviced,
theon-boarddiagnosticssystemisresettoa“notreadyforI/Mtest”
condition.Toreadytheon-boarddiagnosticssystemforI/Mtesting,a
minimumof30minutesofcityandhighwaydrivingisnecessaryas
describedbelow:
First,atleast10minutesofdrivingonanexpresswayorhighway.
Next,atleast20minutesdrivinginstop-and-go,city-typetrafficwith
atleastfouridleperiods.
Allowthevehicletositforatleasteighthourswithoutstartingthe
engine.Then,starttheengineandcompletetheabovedrivingcycle.The
enginemustwarmuptoitsnormaloperatingtemperature.Oncestarted,
donotturnofftheengineuntiltheabovedrivingcycleiscomplete.
POWER STEERING FLUID
Checkthefluid.Refertothe
scheduledmaintenance
informationforservice
maintenanceschedules.

Starttheengineandletitrun
untilitreachesnormaloperating
schedules.

Turnthesteeringwheelleftand
rightseveraltimes.

Turntheengineoff.
Checkthefluidlevel.
IfthefluidisbelowtheMINline,addfluidinsmallamountsuntilit
reachesthecorrectlevel(betweentheMINandMAXlines).
