TRANSMISSION OPERATION
Automatic transmission operation
Brake-shift interlock
Thisvehicleisequippedwithabrake-shiftinterlockfeaturethatprevents
thegearshiftfrombeingmovedfromP(Park)unlessthebrakepedalis
depressed.
IfyoucannotmovethegearshiftoutofP(Park)withthebrakepedal
depressed:
1.Applytheparkingbrake,turnignitionkeytoLOCK,thenremovethe
key.
2.
InsertthekeyandturnittoOFF.ApplythebrakepedalandshifttoN
(Neutral).
3.
Startthevehicle.
Ifitisnecessarytousetheaboveproceduretomovethegearshift,itis
possiblethatafusehasblownorthevehicle’sbrakelampsarenot
operatingproperly.Referto    Fu ses  and  rela ys inthe  Roadside
emergen  cies chapter.
Donotdriveyourvehicleuntilyouverifythatthebrakelamps
areworking.
Ifyourvehiclegetsstuckinmudorsnowitmayberockedoutby
shiftingbetweenforwardandreversegears,stoppingbetweenshifts,ina
steadypattern.Presslightlyontheacceleratorineachgear.
Do not   rock  the   vehicle  for   mor e tha n  a few  min utes.   The
transmission     and  tir es  ma y be  da ma ged or  the  engin  e ma y
ove rhe at.
Alwayssettheparkingbrakefullyandmakesurethegearshiftis
latchedinP(Park).Turnofftheignitionwheneveryouleave
yourvehicle.
Iftheparkingbrakeisfullyreleased,butthebrakewarninglamp
remainsilluminated,thebrakesmaynotbeworkingproperly.
