automotivesafetyexpertsknownas
theSideAirbagTechnicalWorking
Group.Theserecommendedtesting
procedureshelpreducetheriskof
injuriesrelatedtothedeploymentof
sideairbags(includingtheSafety
Canopy).
TheSafetyCanopysystemconsists
ofthefollowing:
Aninflatablenyloncurtainwith
aninflatorconcealedbehindthe
headlinerandabovethedoors
(oneoneachsideofthevehicle).
Aheadlinerthatwillflextoopen
abovethesidedoorstoallowSafetyCanopydeployment.
Thesamewarninglight,electroniccontrolanddiagnosticunitasused
forthefrontairbags.
Twosidecrashsensorsmountedatthefrontdoors(oneoneachside
ofthevehicle).
Twosidecrashsensorslocatedatthec-pillarbehindthereardoors
(oneoneachsideofthevehicle).
Rolloversensorintherestraintscontrolmodule(RCM).
TheSafetyCanopysystem,incombinationwithsafetybelts,canhelp
reducetheriskofsevereinjuriesintheeventofasignificantsideimpact
collisionorrolloverevent.
Children12yearsoldandundershouldalwaysbeproperlyrestrainedin
thesecondorthirdrowseats(ifequipped).TheSafetyCanopywillnot
interferewithchildrenrestrainedusingaproperlyinstalledchildor
boosterseatbecauseitisdesignedtoinflatedownwardfromthe
headlinerabovethedoorsalongthesidewindowopenings.
