Roadside Emergencies
On4x4/AWDvehicles,itisrequiredthatyourvehiclebetowedwitha
wheelliftanddolliesorflatbedequipmentwithallthewheelsoffthe
ground.
Ifthevehicleistowedbyothermeansorincorrectly,vehicle
damagemayoccur.
FordMotorCompanyproducesatowingmanualforallauthorizedtow
truckoperators.Haveyourtowtruckoperatorrefertothismanualfor
properhook-upandtowingproceduresforyourvehicle.
Emergency towing
Incaseofaroadsideemergencywithadisabledvehicle(withoutaccess
towheeldollies,carhaulingtrailer,orflatbedtransportvehicle)your
vehicle(regardlessoftransmissionpowertrainconfiguration)canbeflat
towed(allwheelsontheground)underthefollowingconditions:
Vehicleisfacingforwardsothatitisbeingtowedinaforward
direction.
PlacethetransmissioninN(Neutral).RefertoBrakeshiftinterlock
intheDrivingchapterforspecificinstructionsifyoucannotmovethe
gearshiftleverintoN(Neutral).
Maximumspeedisnottoexceed35mph(56km/h).
Maximumdistanceis50miles(80km).
