off.Thiswillallowthewheelstospin,whichmayhelptofreeyourstuck
vehicle.Formoreinformation,refertoTractionControl௢(ifequipped)
orAdvanceTrac௢stabilityenhancementsystem(ifequipped)inthis
chapter.
Donotrockthevehicleiftheengineisnotatnormaloperating
temperatureordamagetothetransmissionmayoccur.
Donotrockthevehicleformorethanaminuteordamagetothe
transmissionandtiresmayoccur,ortheenginemayoverheat.

Using the clutch
Themanualtransaxlehasastarterinterlockthatpreventscrankingthe
engineunlesstheclutchpedalisfullydepressed.
Tostartthevehicle:
1.

Makesuretheparkingbrakeisfullyset.
Presstheclutchpedaltothefloor,thenputthegearshiftleverinthe
neutralposition.
3.
Starttheengine,thenpressthebrakepedalandreleasetheparking
brake.
4.
Movethegearshiftlevertothedesiredgear,thenslowlyreleasethe
clutchpedalwhileslowlypressingontheaccelerator.
Donotdrivewithyourfootrestingontheclutchpedalorusetheclutch
pedaltoholdyourvehicleatastandstillwhilewaitingonahill.These
actionswillreducethelifeoftheclutch.
Reverse
MakesurethatyourvehicleisatacompletestopbeforeyoushiftintoR
(Reverse).Failuretodosomaydamagethetransaxle.
•
IfyourvehicleisequippedwiththeSPIengine,movethe
gearshiftleverfullytotheright,thenbackintoR(Reverse).
