Howdoesthepersonalsafetysystemwork?
ThePersonalSafetySystemcanadaptthedeploymentstrategyofyour
vehicle’ssafetydevicesaccordingtocrashseverityandoccupant
conditions.Acollectionofcrashandoccupantsensorsprovides
informationtotheRestraintsControlModule(RCM).Duringacrash,the
RCMactivatesthesafetybeltpretensionersand/oreitheroneorboth
stagesofthedual-stageairbagsupplementalrestraintsbasedoncrash
severityandoccupantconditions.
Thefactthatthepretensionersorairbagsdidnotactivateforbothfront
seatoccupantsinacollisiondoesnotmeanthatsomethingiswrongwith
thesystem.Rather,itmeansthePersonalSafetySystemdeterminedthe
accidentconditions(crashseverity,beltusage,etc.)werenot
appropriatetoactivatethesesafetydevices.Frontairbagsand
pretensionersaredesignedtoactivateonlyinfrontalandnear-frontal
collisions,notrollovers,side-impacts,orrear-impactsunlessthecollision
causessufficientlongitudinaldeceleration.
Driverandpassengerdual-stageairbagsupplementalrestraints
Thedual-stageairbagsofferthecapabilitytotailorthelevelofairbag
inflationenergy.Alower,lessforcefulenergylevelisprovidedformore
common,moderate-severityimpacts.Ahigherenergylevelisusedfor

Thefrontcrashseveritysensorenhancestheabilitytodetectthe
severityofanimpact.Positionedupfront,itprovidesvaluable
informationearlyinthecrasheventontheseverityoftheimpact.This
allowsyourPersonalSafetySystemtodistinguishbetweendifferent
levelsofcrashseverityandmodifythedeploymentstrategyofthe
dual-stageairbagsandsafetybeltpretensioners.
