Two Types of Signals
SALES CODE RAZ—AM/ FM STEREO  RADIO
WITH CASSETTE TAPE PLAYER, CD  PLAYER
AND CD CHANGER CONTROLS —  IF EQUIPPED
There   are  two   basic  typ es  of   rad io  signals...  AM   or
Amplitude   Mod ulation,  in  which  the transm  itted  sou nd
causes  the  amplitude,    or  height,  of  the  rad io waves   to
vary...  and  FM  or Frequ ency  Mod ulation,   in which   the
frequ ency of  the wave  is  varied  to carry  the  sou nd .
Electrical Disturbances
Radio  waves  may  pick up  electrical  distu rbances  during
transm ission.   They  mainly   affect  the  wave   amplitude,
and   thu s  rem ain  a  part    of  the  AM   recep tion.  They
interfere   very  little   with  the  frequ ency   variations   that
carry  the  FM signal.
Operating Instructions — Radio
AM Reception
NOTE:    Pow er to operate   the rad io is  controlled  by  the
ignition  switch.  It must  be  in the ON  or ACC  position  to
operate  the  rad io.
AM sou nd is based  on  wave amplitude,   so AM  recep tion
can be disru pted  by  such things  as lightning,   power  lines
and  neon  signs.
Power Switch, Volume Control
FM Reception
Press  the ON/  VOL control  to turn  the rad io on.  Turn the
volu me  control  clockw ise  to  increase   the  volu me.  The
volu me  will   be  displayed    and   continu ously   updated
while  the  button  is pressed  .
Because  FM  transm ission  is  based   on  frequ ency varia-
tions,  interference   that  consists   of amplitude    variations
can be  filtered  out,  leaving  the  recep tion relatively  clear,
which  is the  major  featu re of FM  rad io.
