Downshifting thetransmission inslippery road
conditions couldresultinskidding.  See“Skidding”
under“LossofControl”intheownermanualformore
information.
{WARNING:
Shifting intoadrivegearwhiletheengineis
runningathighspeedisdangerous.   Unlessyour
footisfirmlyonthebrakepedal,thevehiclecould
moveveryrapidly.Youcouldlosecontrolandhit
peopleorobjects.  Donotshiftintoadrivegear
whiletheengineisrunningathighspeed.
Whentemperatures areverycold,thetransmission's
gearshifting maybedelayed,  providing morestable
shiftsuntiltheenginewarmsup.Shiftsmaybemore
noticeable withacoldtransmission.  Thisdifference in
shifting isnormal.
M(ManualMode):  Thisposition letsdriversselectthe
rangeofgearsappropriate  forcurrentdriving
conditions. Ifthevehiclehasthisfeature,   see“Range
Selection Mode”laterinthissection.
Notice: Shifting outofP(Park)orN(Neutral)   with
theenginerunningathighspeedmaydamagethe
transmission. Therepairswouldnotbecoveredby
thevehiclewarranty.Besuretheengineisnot
runningathighspeedwhenshifting   thevehicle.
Notice: Spinning thetiresorholdingthevehiclein
oneplaceonahillusingonlytheaccelerator     pedal
maydamagethetransmission.  Therepairwillnotbe
coveredbythevehiclewarranty.Ifyouarestuck,do
notspinthetires.Whenstopping   onahill,usethe
brakestoholdthevehicleinplace.
D(Drive): Thisposition isfornormaldriving.   Itprovides
thebestfueleconomy.Ifyouneedmorepowerfor
passing, andyouare:

Goinglessthanabout35mph(55km/h),pushthe
accelerator pedalabouthalfwaydown.
Thevehiclehasashiftstabilization   featurethatadjusts
thetransmission shiftingtothecurrentdriving
conditions toreducerapidupshifts  anddownshifts.
Iftheshiftstabilization  featuredetermines thatacurrent
vehiclespeedcannotbemaintained,   thetransmission
doesnotupshift.  Insomecases,thismayappeartobe
adelayedshift,howeverthetransmission   isoperating
normally.

Goingabout35mph(55km/h)ormore,pushthe
accelerator allthewaydown.
D(Drive)orM(ManualMode)canbeusedwhentowing
atrailer,carrying  aheavyload,drivingonsteephills,
orforoff-roaddriving.  Youmaywanttoshiftthe
transmission toalowergearselection  ifthe
transmission shiftstoooften.
