Starttheengineasyouwouldanyotherengine.See
ThevehiclealsohasanAutoStartfeature. Theengine
willremainoffwhileinAutoStopmodeuntilvehicle
conditions requiretheenginetorun.Thenear-instant
starting oftheenginefromAutoStopmodeiscalled
AutoStart.

information onstarting. Thehybridsystemprovides very
quietenginestarting. Ifpullingatrailer withtrailer
brakes,seeTowingaTrailer on page 5‑8 formore
information.
EVMode
AutoStop
ThevehiclealsohasanEVmodewhichusesonlythe
electric motortomovethevehicle. Withlight
acceleration, thevehiclewilldriveinEVmode.
EVmodeisunavailable whenthevehicleisoutoffuel.
ThevehiclehasanAutoStopfeature. Aftera
successful enginestart,theenginemayturnoffand
operateintheAutoStopmode.
Keepyourfootfirmlyonthebrakepedaluntilyouare
readyforthevehicletomove.

EngineOFFandAUTOSTOPmodesareindicated on
thetachometer display.Whenthetachometer needle
indicates OFF,theengineisnotrunningandwillremain
offuntiltheignition keyisplacedintheSTARTposition
oraremotevehiclestartisperformed. Whenthe
tachometer needleindicates AUTOSTOP,thehybrid
systemison,theengineisnotrunning, butmayAuto
Startatanytimewithoutnotice.SeeTachometer on

RegenerativeBraking
Regenerative brakingenablestheelectric drivemotorto
operateasagenerator whencoasting orbraking.
Energyfromthemovingvehiclerecharges thehybrid
battery.
Thehydraulic discbrakesworkwiththeregenerative
brakingtoinsureeffective braking.
Achimewillsoundifthedriverdoorisopenedwhilein
AutoStopasareminder thattheignition switchisnotin
theLOCK/OFFposition. Alwaysturntheignition switch
toLOCK/OFFandremovethekeyfromtheignition
switchwhenexitingthevehicle.
