areaandoccupanttofurtherenhancetheprotectionprovidedto
occupantsinsideimpactcollisions.Theseat-mountedsideairbagwas
designedtoinflatebetweenthedoorpanelandoccupanttofurther
enhancetheprotectionprovidedoccupantsinsideimpactcollisions.
ThesideaircurtainsystemSRSisdesignedtoactivatewhenthevehicle
sustainslateraldecelerationsufficienttocausethesensorstoclosean
electricalcircuitthatinitiatesaircurtainandseat-mountedsideairbag
inflation.
Thefactthatthesideaircurtainandseat-mountedsideairbagdidnot
inflateinacollisiondoesnotmeanthatsomethingiswrongwiththe
system.Rather,itmeanstheforceswerenotofthetypesufficientto
causeactivation.Thesideaircurtainsystemisdesignedtoinflateinside
impactcollisions,notroll-over,rearimpact,frontalornear-frontal
collisions,unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateraldeceleration.
WARNING:Severalairbagsystemcomponentsgethotafter
inflation.Donottouchthemafterinflation.
WARNING:Ifthesideair
curtainhasdeployed,the
aircurtainwillnotfunction
again.Thesideaircurtain
system(includingtheA,Band
Cpillartrimandheadliner)
mustbeinspectedandserviced
byanauthorizeddealer.Ifthe
aircurtainisnotreplaced,the
unrepairedareawillincreasethe
riskofinjuryinacollision.
Determiningifthesystemisoperational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertotheWarninglightsand
chimessectionintheInstrumentClusterchapter.Routinemaintenance
oftheairbagisnotrequired.
