Driving on snow and ice
4WDvehicleshaveadvantagesover2WDvehiclesinsnowandicebut
canskidlikeanyothervehicle.
Shouldyoustarttoslidewhiledrivingonsnowyoricyroads,turnthe
steeringwheelinthedirectionoftheslideuntilyouregaincontrol.
Avoidsuddenapplicationsofpowerandquickchangesofdirectionon
snowandice.Applytheacceleratorslowlyandsteadilywhenstarting
fromafullstop.
Avoidsuddenbrakingaswell.Althougha4WDvehiclemayaccelerate
betterthanatwo-wheeldrivevehicleinsnowandice,itwon’tstopany
faster,becauseasinothervehicles,brakingoccursatallfourwheels.Do
notbecomeoverconfidentastoroadconditions.
Makesureyouallowsufficientdistancebetweenyouandothervehicles
forstopping.Driveslowerthanusualandconsiderusingoneofthelower
gears.YourvehicleisequippedwithaFourWheelAnti-LockBrake
System(ABS);applythebrakesteadily.Donot“pump”thebrakes.Refer

operationoftheanti-lockbrakesystem.
Neverdrivewithchainsonthefronttiresof4WDvehicleswithoutalso
puttingthemonthereartires.Thiscouldcausethereartoslideand
swingaroundduringbraking.
Maintenance and Modifications
Thesuspensionandsteeringsystemsonyourvehiclehavebeendesigned
andtestedtoprovidepredictableperformancewhetherloadedorempty
anddurableloadcarryingcapability.Forthisreason,MazdaMotor
Corporationstronglyrecommendsthatyoudonotmakemodifications
suchasaddingorremovingparts(suchasliftkitsorstabilizerbars)or
byusingreplacementpartsnotequivalenttotheoriginalfactory
equipment.
Anymodificationstoavehiclethatraisethecenterofgravitycanmake
itmorelikelythevehiclewillrolloverasaresultofalossofcontrol.
MazdaMotorCorporationrecommendsthatcautionbeusedwithany
vehicleequippedwithahighloadordevice(suchasladderracksor
pickupboxcover).
