Forvehicleswithoverflowcoolantsystemswithanon-pressurizedcap
onthecoolantrecoverysystem,addcoolanttothecoolantrecovery
reservoirwhentheengineiscool.Addthepropermixtureofcoolantand
watertothe“FULLCOLD”level.Forallothervehicles,whichhavea
coolantdegassystemwithapressurizedcap,orifitisnecessaryto
removethecoolantpressurereliefcapontheradiatorofavehiclewith
anoverflowsystem,followthesestepstoaddenginecoolant.
Note:The4.0LV6engineusestheoverflowsystem,andthe2.3LI4
engineusesthedegassystem.
WARNING:Toavoidscaldinghotsteamorcoolantfrombeing
releasedfromtheenginecoolingsystem,neverremovethe
reservoircapwhiletheengineisrunningorhot.Failuretofollowthis
warningmayresultinpossibleseverepersonalinjuryanddamageto
theengine’scoolingsystem.
Addthepropermixtureofcoolantandwatertothecoolingsystemby
followingthesesteps:

Beforeyouremovethecap,turntheengineoffandletitcool.
Whentheengineiscool,wrapathickclotharoundthecap.Slowly
turncapcounterclockwiseuntilpressurebeginstorelease.

Stepbackwhilethepressurereleases.
Whenyouaresurethatallthepressurehasbeenreleased,usethe
clothtoturnitcounterclockwiseandremovethecap.

Fillthecoolantreservoirslowlywiththepropercoolantmixture(see
above),towithinthe“COLDFILLRANGE”orthe“FULLCOLD”
levelonthereservoir.Ifyouremovedtheradiatorcapinanoverflow
system,filltheradiatoruntilthecoolantisvisibleandradiatoris
almostfull.

Replacethecap.Turnuntiltightlyinstalled.Capmustbetightly
installedtopreventcoolantloss.
Afteranycoolanthasbeenadded,checkthecoolantconcentration,refer
toCheckingenginecoolant.Iftheconcentrationisnot50/50
(protectionto–34°F/–36°C),drainsomecoolantandadjustthe
concentration.Itmaytakeseveraldrainsandadditionstoobtaina50/50
coolantconcentration.
Whenevercoolanthasbeenadded,thecoolantlevelinthecoolant
reservoirshouldbecheckedthenextfewtimesyoudrivethevehicle.If
necessary,addenough50/50concentrationofenginecoolantand
distilledwatertobringtheliquidleveltotheproperlevel.
