ThePersonalSafetySystem௡providesanimprovedoveralllevelof

frontalcrashprotectiontofrontseatoccupantsandisdesignedtohelp

furtherreducetheriskofairbag-relatedinjuries.Thesystemisableto

analyzedifferentoccupantclassificationsandconditionsandcrash

severitybeforeactivatingtheappropriatesafetydevicestohelpbetter

protectarangeofoccupantsinavarietyoffrontalcrashsituations.

Yourvehicle’sPersonalSafetySystem௡consistsof:

Driverandpassengerdual-stageairbagsupplementalrestraints.

Frontoutboardseatbeltswithpretensioners,energymanagement

retractors,andseatbeltusagesensors.

Driver’sseatpositionsensor.

Frontcrashseveritysensor.

Frontpassengersensingsystem

PassengerAirbagOffindicatorlight.

RestraintsControlModule(RCM)withimpactandsafingsensors.

Restraintsystemwarninglightandback-uptone.

Theelectricalwiringfortheairbags,crashsensor(s),seatbelt

pretensioners,frontseatbeltusagesensors,driverseatposition

sensor,andindicatorlights.

How does the Personal Safety Systemா work?

ThePersonalSafetySystem௡canadaptthedeploymentstrategyofyour

vehicle’ssafetydevicesaccordingtocrashseverityandoccupant

classificationandconditions.Acollectionofcrashandoccupantsensors

providesinformationtotheRestraintsControlModule(RCM).Duringa

crash,theRCMmayactivatetheseatbeltpretensionersand/oreither

none,one,orbothstagesofthedual-stageairbagsupplementalrestraints

basedoncrashseverityandoccupantclassificationandconditions.

Thefactthatthepretensionersorairbagsdidnotactivateforbothfront

seatoccupantsinacollisiondoesnotmeanthatsomethingiswrongwith

thesystem.Rather,itmeansthePersonalSafetySystem௡determined

theaccidentconditions(crashseverity,beltusage,etc.)werenot

appropriatetoactivatethesesafetydevices.Frontairbagsand

pretensionersaredesignedtoactivateonlyinfrontalandnear-frontal

collisions,notrollovers,side-impacts,orrear-impactsunlessthecollision

causessufficientlongitudinaldeceleration.
