Itisextremely dangerous torideinacargoarea,
insideoroutsideofavehicle. Inacollision,
peopleridingintheseareasaremorelikelytobe
seriously injuredorkilled.Donotallowpeopleto
rideinanyareaofyourvehiclethatisnot
equippedwithseatsandsafetybelts.Besure
everyoneinyourvehicleisinaseatandusinga
safetybeltproperly.
Thissectionofthemanualdescribes howtousesafety
beltsproperly.Italsodescribes somethingsnottodo
withsafetybelts.

Donotletanyoneridewhereasafetybeltcannot
bewornproperly.Inacrash,ifyouoryour
passenger(s) arenotwearingsafetybelts,the
injuriescanbemuchworse.Youcanhitthings
insidethevehicleharderorbeejectedfromthe
vehicle. Youandyourpassenger(s) canbe
seriously injuredorkilled.Inthesamecrash,you
mightnotbe,ifyouarebuckledup.Alwaysfasten
yoursafetybelt,andcheckthatyourpassenger(s)
arerestrained properly too.

foradditional information.
InmoststatesandinallCanadianprovinces, thelaw
requires wearingsafetybelts.Hereiswhy:
Youneverknowifyouwillbeinacrash.Ifyoudohave
acrash,youdonotknowifitwillbeaseriousone.
Afewcrashesaremild,andsomecrashescanbeso
seriousthatevenbuckledup,apersonwouldnot
survive. Butmostcrashesareinbetween. Inmanyof
them,peoplewhobuckleupcansurviveandsometimes
walkaway.Withoutsafetybelts,theycouldhavebeen
badlyhurtorkilled.
