MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
NOTE:    Insp ection of brake  hoses  shou ld  be perform  ed
whenever   the brake  system  is serviced   and every  engine
oil  change.   Insp ect  hyd rau lic brake   hoses   for  surface
cracking,  scuffing,  or worn  spots.  If there is any  evid ence
of cracking,   scuffing,  or worn  spots,   the hose  shou ld  be
rep laced immediately!   Eventu al deterioration   of the  hose
can take  place  resu lting in a  possibility  of a burst  failu re.
Brak e Master  Cylin  der —  Brak e Fluid  Level  Check
The fluid  level  of the  master  cylind er shou ld be  checked
when   perform ing  und er  the  hood   service,  or  immedi-
ately  if the brake  system  warning   lamp  ind icates system
failu re.
The   brake   master   cylind er   has  a   translu cent   plastic
reservoir.  On the  outboard  side  of the reservoir,  there  is a
“MAX”  dot  and  an “MIN ”  dot. The  fluid  level  must  be
kep t within  these  two  dots.  Do  not  add  fluid  above  the
MAX mark,  becau se leakage   may  occur at  the  cap.
WARN ING!
Worn  brak e hoses  can  burst  and  cause  brak e  failu re.
You  could  have  an  accid ent.  If you  see  any  sign s of
crack ing,  scuffin  g,  or  worn   spots,   have   the  brak  e
hoses  rep laced  immediately.
With disc  brakes  the fluid  level  can be expected   to fall as
the  brake linings  wear.  However,   an unexp ected  drop  in
fluid  level  may be  caused  by  a leak  and  a system  check
shou ld be  cond ucted .
Refer  to  Fluids,   Lubricants   and  Genu ine  Parts   for  the
correct  fluid  typ e.
