Afterloadingthetrailer,weighthetrailerandthenthe
tongue,separately,toseeiftheweightsareproper.
Iftheyarenot,adjustments mightbemadebymoving
someitemsaroundinthetrailer.
TotalWeightontheVehicle'sTires
Besurethevehicle's tiresareinflated totheupperlimit
forcoldtires.Thesenumberscanbefoundonthe
Certification labelorseeLoadingtheVehicle on
page 5‑23.MakesurenottogoovertheGVWlimitfor
thevehicle, ortheGAWR,including theweightofthe
trailertongue.
SafetyChains
Alwaysattachchainsbetweenthevehicleandthe
trailer.Crossthesafetychainsunderthetongueofthe
trailertohelppreventthetonguefromcontacting the
roadifitbecomesseparated fromthehitch.Instructions
aboutsafetychainsmaybeprovided bythehitch
manufacturer orbythetrailermanufacturer.Followthe
manufacturer's recommendation forattaching safety
chainsanddonotattachthemtothebumper.Always
leavejustenoughslacksotherigcanturn.Neverallow
safetychainstodragontheground.
Hitches
Itisimportant tohavethecorrecthitchequipment.
Crosswinds, largetrucksgoingbyandroughroadsare
afewreasonswhytherighthitchisneeded.

Therearbumperonthevehicleisnotintended
forhitches. Donotattachrentalhitchesor
otherbumper-type hitchestoit.Useonlya
frame-mounted hitchthatdoesnotattachto
