thosefuels.
Toprovidecleanerair,allgasolines intheUnitedStates
arenowrequired tocontainadditives thathelpprevent
engineandfuelsystemdeposits fromforming, allowing
theemissioncontrolsystemtoworkproperly.Inmost
cases,nothingshouldhavetobeaddedtothefuel.
However,somegasolines containonlytheminimum
amountofadditive required tomeetU.S.Environmental
Protection Agencyregulations. Tohelpkeepfuel
injectors andintakevalvesclean,orifthevehicle
experiences problems duetodirtyinjectors orvalves,
lookforgasoline thatisadvertised asTOPTIER
Detergent Gasoline.
Notice: Thisvehiclewasnotdesigned forfuelthat
containsmethanol. Donotusefuelcontaining
methanol. Itcancorrodemetalpartsinthefuel
systemandalsodamageplasticandrubberparts.
Thatdamagewouldnotbecoveredunderthe
vehiclewarranty.
Somegasolines thatarenotreformulated forlow
emissions cancontainanoctane-enhancing additive
calledmethylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl
(MMT);asktheattendant whereyoubuygasoline
whetherthefuelcontainsMMT.Werecommend against
theuseofsuchgasolines. Fuelscontaining MMTcan
reducethelifeofsparkplugsandtheperformance of
theemissioncontrolsystemcouldbeaffected. The
malfunction indicator lampmightturnon.Ifthisoccurs,
returntoyourdealer/retailer forservice.
Forcustomers whodonotuseTOPTIERDetergent
Gasolineregularly,onebottleofGMFuelSystem
TreatmentPLUS,addedtothefueltankateveryengine
oilchange,canhelpcleandepositsfromfuelinjectors
andintakevalves.GMFuelSystemTreatmentPLUSis
theonlygasolineadditive recommended byGeneral
Motors.

Also,yourdealer/retailer hasadditives thatwillhelp
correctandpreventmostdeposit‐relatedproblems.
Ifyouplanondrivinginanothercountryoutsidethe
UnitedStatesorCanada,theproperfuelmightbehard
tofind.Neveruseleadedgasolineoranyotherfuelnot
recommended intheprevious textonfuel.Costly
repairscausedbyuseofimproper fuelwouldnotbe
coveredbythevehiclewarranty.
Gasolines containing oxygenates, suchasethersand
ethanol, andreformulated gasolines mightbeavailable
inyourarea.Werecommend thatyouusethese
gasolines, iftheycomplywiththespecifications
described earlier.However,E85(85%ethanol) and
